The Department of Wood and Fibre Industries, Faculty of Forestry and Environmentsuccessfully organized the World Wood Day 2026 (WWD 2026) celebration on 21 May 2026 at the Forestry Lecture Hall, Faculty of Forestry and Environment. The programme was held under the theme “Sustainable Wood, Circular Future” and aimed to raise awareness of the importance of wood as a sustainable resource while enhancing understanding of circular economy practices and waste management.
A variety of activities were conducted throughout the programme, including webinars, knowledge-sharing sessions by industry experts and academics, as well as hands-on activities that provided participants with exposure to innovation and the sustainable use of wood.
The programme featured talks on the timber industry, forest resource sustainability, innovative wood materials and technologies, and the sharing of best practices at the international level. In addition, participants engaged in DIY wood product workshops, wood technology demonstrations, industry exhibitions, and activities related to the circular economy.
WWD 2026 was organized in collaboration with several strategic partners, including the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC), Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), Persatuan Pengusaha Kayu-kayan dan Perabot Bumiputra Malaysia (PEKA), Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ), and Founder WoodKare (M) Sdn. Bhd. The programme successfully brought together students, university staff, industry representatives, government agencies, and local communities in a collective effort to promote awareness and engagement towards the sustainable development of the timber sector.
