The Department of Wood and Fibre Industry was established in 2021, rebranded from the Department of Natural Resources Industry following the establishment of the Faculty of Forestry and Environment on 1 March 2020. This department was originally the Department of Forest Production which was established in 1973 under the Faculty of Forestry. The purpose of the establishment of this department is to support the development of the country's timber industry.
The main focus of the department is to produce skilled personnel in the aspect of forest production. Along with the establishment of the Faculty of Forestry and Environment, the scope of the department was expanded to the management and utilization of natural resources by focusing on the fields of wood technology, wood and fiber industries in line with the current needs of the industry. This department plays the role of producing competent, innovative, and competitive graduates to meet the needs of the industry and support the country's natural resource sustainability agenda by offering the academic program Bachelor of Science and Wood Technology with Honors (until the 2023/2024 session) and renaming it to Bachelor of Science in Wood Industry with Honors.
