The Doctor of Philosophy programme also requires students to complete several academic courses and conduct an independent research project. A Doctor of Philosophy programme may be completed within a minimum period of two years and a maximum period of five years.

a) Courses
Students are COMPULSORY to register Research Methodology but NOT COMPULSORY required to register any other structured coursework. However, the students may have to register a few structured coursework on the advice of his Advisor/Thesis Supervisory Committee.
b) Thesis
A Doctor of Philosophy student are COMPULSORY to register for Doctoral Research (SPS 6999) every semester. This is a research project whereby at the end of the study period the candidate will submit a thesis. The thesis will be examined and a viva voce conducted to determine the student’s competency in the field of study.
c) Seminar
Students are required to register for Seminar (SPS 6903). This one credit seminar course is meant for students to prepare and orally present their research proposal, and should be taken, at the latest, by the second semester of their study programme. The course will be graded on a Satisfactory/Non-satisfactory basis.
d) Comprehensive Examination
Students pursuing a doctoral programme MUST PASS a written and oral comprehensive examination, which should be taken only after completion of all coursework, required for the programme, and within five semesters of cumulative enrolment. It is designed to evaluate the student’s knowledge in the area of study, his ability to integrate knowledge of research and theories pertaining to issues that are fundamental to the field of study and his understanding or relevant research methodology and designs.
